We Believe: Doctrine for Our Delight

We Believe: Doctrine for our Delight. This series will consist of sermons from our statement of faith for Sovereign Grace Churches. This statement of faith was developed over a period of seven years by the elders of Sovereign Grace Churches. This morning will be an introductory sermon on how we as pastors hope that this statement of faith would function in the life of our church corporately and in our own devotional lives individually. You have probably heard people say, “Just give me Jesus, I don’t want all that doctrine” or “No creed but the Bible.” Or even the phrase “Doctrine divides.” Oftentimes, this instinct comes from our desire to maintain Scripture as our highest authority However, the question one has to ultimately answer is what does Scripture teach? And what does it say about the central and important aspects of our faith? We will see in this sermon series as well as from church history that creeds and confessions have played a vital role in the church in answering that very question. A robust biblical statement of faith is critical to our spiritual nourishment individually and the health of our church corporately.
